Sorry I’ve been MIA for so long. My workload has been pretty crazy over the past few months; I’ve had a bunch of stories printed in the magazine, and I’m also mapping out some big projects for SIKIDS.com.
I have been thinking about coming back, however. In particular, I’ve been thinking how best to put this space to use when I did come back. I enjoy dropping posts, but I also want to hear more from you guys.
Towards that end, I’m gonna try a new format for a while. We’ll see how it works, and make adjustments as need be. Either way, I’m back. Once a week at the least, but hopefully more.
Here’s the deal. Each week I’m gonna try to kickstart a group discussion by posing a sports-related question. I’ll leave it up to you guys to get the discussion going via comments, and occasionally pop in to add to the debate or take the discussion further with more questioning.
At the end of the week, I’ll take the best post from the comments section and use it to lead off my next blog. Then I’ll respond to that post in more detail, before posting a new question.
Sound good? I’m hoping this inspires more of a back-and-forth between us, as opposed to me blabbing incessantly about things you may or may not be interested in. I’ll need your help to make it work, however. And with that said, let’s move on to this week’s question…
-With the Divisional Playoffs set to begin this weekend, which of the remaining teams has the best chance to end New England’s undefeated season? Don’t just list the team. If it’s the Jags, is it because of the running game? If you don’t think the Pats will lose, is it because of the Brady-to-Moss combo? Post your answer and your argument in detail, and let the debate begin!

I believe that the Seattle Seahawks have a good chance at winning against the New England Patriots in the superbowl because Matt Hasselback and his team offensively have a great passing game and also an ok running game when Shaun Alexander is healthy. Also with the combined efforts of Nate Burleson and Bobby Engram they have a winning chance against the undefeated legends.
Hmmm... I think the Seahawks have an... ok chance, but mostly because of their defense, mac. Did you see how their D-Line made life miserable for Todd Collins last week? Any team that hopes to upend the Pats will need to be able to generate a pass rush with just their defensive line. Blitzing New England means man coverage on Moss and Welker, and that plays right into Tom Brady's hands.
Even though the giants think they have the best shot at winning against the patriots they would still have to win against the 'boys and most likely the cheese heads so they will be worn. The Jaggies look like the perfect team with the fossil Fred Taylor and my fantasy back,Maurice Jones-Drew. They will run all over the seau and bruschi combination who have a combined age of 72. It doesn't hurt that their receivers are above - average. Their Qb,Garrard, who has sat behind an over-rated Byron Leftwich. Garrard's scrambling and big play capabilities can help out big time on baiting safeties.
Hey cquinn... I thought the Jaguars played the Pats as well as anyone has this year: they completely neutralized Moss, their defense got early pressure on Brady and Garrard played exceptional early on. That said, I think the fact the game still wasnt close is a bad sign for the remaining teams.
I didnt think the Jags woud pose such a challenge. Their offense is basically built to put up 15-25 points on a good day, and that's just not enough to beat New England nowadays. They gave it a heck of a run though, and are definitely one of the teams to keep an eye on next season.
I'll hold onto my pick for which team has the best chance to knock New England off til later in the week. Let's just say that team isnt playing in the AFC Championship game. I'm predicting another blowout in that matchup, as the Chargers are too banged up and Bill Belicheck has made a career out of torturing young quarterbacks.
PS - "Fossil" Fred Taylor was my fantasy back. He actually got me to the finals this year, so go easy on him!

I feel the Patriots can be beaten and i think the Chargers and Giants could. I think they could be beaten because if their 16-0 they arebound to lose anytime. If the Chargers dont take themout this round then the Giants will beat the Packers and the Giants will then defeat the Patriots.
xavier... i agree that the law of averages is stacked against the pats; just consider the fact that no team has had an undefeated season in over 30 years! however, at this point i think what's more important to consider is that new england only has to win two more games to get the job done, and those games are against a banged-up Chargers team and the NFC's Super Bowl representative. Check back here later today/early tomorrow, and I'll let you know who I think can knock New England off (or if it will happen).
I do think that the Patriots can lose. I mean, the dolphins won one, and the Patriots can afford to lose one. I'm not sure who will beat them...but I hope it's someone unexpected. I may not know much about football, but I know nothing is perfect... and I'm rooting for the Giants...so hopefully there is a chance for them.
P.S.
No offense to Dolphin fans.....:)
