...though a Subway Series may be in the cards. Will the Mets pitching staff stay healthy? Can the Yankees pitching staff hang on through October?

If so, look out.

THE PATRIOTS ARE BEING ACUSED FOR VIDEOTAPPING A ANOTHER TEAM FOR THEIR WEAKNESS AND STRENGTHS.tHE PATRIOTS COACH WAS A VICTIM FR ALL OF THIS.THE COACH WAS FINED $5,OOO AND THE TEAM WAS FINED $250,000 AND TOOK AWAY THERE FIRTS DRAFT PICK FOR NEXT YEAR.

HEADLINE:Scandal Provides Motivation for the Patriots

FOXBOROUGH, Mass., Sept. 17 — Bill Belichick seldom publicly peels back his dour mask to reveal a reservoir of giddiness. But the day after the New England Patriots annihilated the San Diego Chargers, 38-14 — and sent a pointed message to those who doubted the Patriots’ prowess without any tricks up Belichick’s sweatshirt sleeves — seemed as good a time as any for Belichick to arrive at his news conference so relaxed that it appeared as if he had dropped by on his way to the Cape. For the second week in a row, Belichick offered effusive praise for the Patriots, and two games into the season they seem as dominant as they have at any time under Belichick. They held LaDainian Tomlinson to 43 yards on 18 carries (2.4 yards a carry), and gained twice as many offensive yards as the Chargers — who had the most potent offense in the N.F.L. last season.

The Patriots’ off-season acquisitions have proved to be even better than expected. Tom Brady, who fell one victory short of leading the Patriots to the Super Bowl last season with substandard receivers, has been virtually flawless with the additions of Randy Moss (8 catches, 105 yards, 2 touchdowns) and Wes Welker (8 catches, 91 yards). The defense has been rejuvenated. Rosevelt Colvin had two sacks, an interception and two forced fumbles against the Chargers. Linebacker Adalius Thomas, another off-season acquisition, returned an interception for a touchdown in a play that delighted Belichick so much he compared it to an interception return for a touchdown by one of his favorite players, Lawrence Taylor.

“They just jumped on us like a spider monkey,” Chargers fullback Lorenzo Neal said.

In New England, the Patriots’ videotape scandal has yielded an unlikely outcome: Belichick as victim. As the final seconds ticked off the clock Sunday night, several Patriots, including Tedy Bruschi and Brady, embraced him. When Belichick walked toward the tunnel, the crowd cheered loudly, eliciting so many waves of acknowledgment from Belichick that it appeared as if he were running for office.

In the locker room, Bruschi emotionally defended Belichick, the Patriots and the owner Robert K. Kraft — who was not happy with the embarrassment Belichick’s ploys brought to the franchise — and handed Belichick the game ball.

“The team was very supportive, the entire organization, starting with Mr. Kraft going all the way down to the players and everybody else,” Belichick said Monday. “I appreciate it. It was a nice gesture. The most important thing is for us right now to put all of that behind us. As good of a win as San Diego was, it’s time to move on to Buffalo.”

Perhaps, but the investigation is not over yet. Belichick said Monday that he would comply with Commissioner Roger Goodell’s request to turn over the Patriots’ video library and notes. And the N.F.L. will closely monitor all 32 teams’ use of radio frequencies after speculation that the Patriots were wiring their defensive players to try to pick up quarterback audibles.

The Patriots will probably lose a first-round pick, and Belichick has to pay a $500,000 fine. And the Patriots face more sanctions if Goodell uncovers more misdeeds. But the biggest impact of the investigation may be felt by the rest of the league. After a week of hearing their detractors throw mud at their legacy, the Patriots are angry. They know each game is now a proving ground, a way to convince everyone that they did not need any help to win in the first place.

“The one thing you need to understand about athletes is that when they’re up against a task and they feel like their back is up against a wall, that’s motivation for athletes,” Tomlinson said. “So it was a trap for us, really, because they were kind of building on that, saying, ‘O.K., everybody thinks we’re cheaters, let’s go show them that we’re not cheaters.’ They’re one of the best teams in the league, so I wasn’t surprised at all with how well they played.”

And now, nobody else should be surprised, either

Derek Jeter's three-run homer lifts Yanks over Red Sox

One of the reason for me picking this headline is because Derek Jeter is my favorite player. Also because I no the yank and the red sox history a few years ago in the playoffs. So seeing that the yanks are about come in first place instead of red sox or coming close just excites me

This headline caught my eye because it is a big transaction in the nfl and will help my fantasy team. The headline was important because of Michael Vick, since his suspension the Falcons have been a terrible team. It is also important because recently people have thought of Leftwich as a bust. Leftwich was recently released by the Jaguars.
